Michael Jensen – Lieutenant
A dedicated professional, Lieutenant Michael Jensen has called the Denali Borough home for the past three years and has worked in the region for ten years. Since joining the Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department two years ago, he has quickly made an impact with his commitment to both fire and EMS services.

Lieutenant Jensen holds multiple certifications, including AK Firefighter 1, Hazmat Ops/Hazmat Awareness, Confined Space Rescue Technician, and Wildland Firefighter Type 2. Additionally, he is an active member of Project Hope, a program focused on community health and safety.Always striving for personal growth, Michael is passionate about learning and sharing knowledge, constantly pushing himself to expand his expertise on both the fire and medical sides of emergency response. His eagerness to teach and his commitment to professional development have made him an invaluable resource to the department.

Baxter Mercer – Assistant Chief
A proud resident of Healy since 1957, Baxter Mercer has dedicated 18 years to the Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department, with the last 11 years serving as Assistant Chief. With a deep-rooted knowledge of both the history of the Denali Borough and the operations of the department, Baxter is often the go-to resource for anyone seeking insight into the department’s past and present.

Baxter has specialized training in search and rescue and industrial gas, which enhances his ability to lead in a wide range of emergency situations. Known for his humble nature, he is always seen with a smile on his face as he tackles projects and teaches others. His ability to captivate and engage as an instructor makes him a standout in the department, and his wealth of knowledge has made him an irreplaceable member of both the leadership team and the department as a whole.


Megan Scoles – Chief
Chief Megan Scoles moved to Healy in 2011 and has been an active member of the Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department for eight years, stepping into the role of Chief in 2023. With a wealth of knowledge and an unmatched dedication to public safety, she brings strong leadership and a broad skill set to the department.

Megan is a nationally registered and state-certified Advanced EMT (AEMT) and holds more certifications than most can count—including rope technician, search and rescue, extrication, confined space entry and rescue, and her personal favorite: fire investigation. She also serves as a CPR instructor and holds certification as a Wildland Firefighter Type 2.

As Chief, Megan wears many hats—figuratively and literally—managing department operations while also serving as the liaison between Tri-Valley and other fire departments within the Denali Borough. Her leadership is marked by a deep commitment to continuous learning, interagency collaboration, and fostering a high standard of training and readiness within the department.



Jeremy Wolf Sr. – Captain
Jeremy Wolf Sr. has been a dedicated member of the Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years, serving the Denali Borough community he’s proudly called home for the past 14 years. As Captain, Jeremy brings a wealth of experience, technical expertise, and steady leadership to every aspect of department operations.

In addition to his EMT-1 certification, Jeremy holds specialized training in Hazmat, HAZWOPER, high and low-angle rope rescue, confined space rescue, extrication, and rigging. His broad skillset makes him an invaluable asset in complex emergency scenes and technical rescues. He also serves on the department’s board of directors, playing a key role in shaping its future and supporting community safety initiatives.

While his professional skills run deep, Jeremy is equally known for his sense of humor and infectious positivity. Often dubbed the department’s resident “goof ball,” he keeps spirits high—especially during an ongoing prank war with a neighboring department. His lighthearted approach, paired with serious expertise, makes him a respected and well-loved leader both on and off duty.
